Day 1 | Amman

Welcome to Jordan!  We hope you had a good flight.  Arrive at Queen Alia International Airport where you will be met by our VIP airport service.  This will enable you to streamline your airport experience so that you can avoid waiting in lines and make the most of your time in Jordan.  This service meets you where the sleeve of the plane meets the terminal, and aids with passport control, baggage and arrival procedures (the service is always subject to security procedures, unfortunately any concerns of a security official cannot be fast tracked).  You will then be met by your driver who will take you to Amman in a comfortable air-conditioned vehicle with plenty of room for luggage. The journey should take around 35 minutes subject to traffic conditions.

Today, you will enjoy a private guided tour of Amman. You will have two optional activities to choose from:

OPTION 1:
If you are excited by classic cars, this is a must do experience!  The Royal Automobile Museum was constructed in the honour of His Majesty the late King Hussein in order to feature his passion for cars - of which he owned quite a few!  The museum includes several showrooms with a variety of seriously elegant cars exhibited, some of them dating back to 1917, and some of which were used for national historic occasions in the past years.

OPTION 2:
Enjoy an authentic Arabic home and culinary experience offers the chance to chop, cook, learn and dine. You will learn about the Arabic kitchen and how to prepare a traditional Arabic meal with the help of some pretty experienced ladies!  Most importantly you will then get to eat the food that you prepared, in a traditional grandmother's house found in one of Ammans oldest neighborhoods, Jabal al weibdeh.

Enjoy a private guided tour of the Al Joun Forest Reserve & Jerash. About half an hour West of Jerash lies the Aljoun Forest Reserve, worthy of a visit while you explore the North of the country. 

In order to stretch your legs and submerge yourself in nature, we recommend visiting to the Aljoun Forest Reserve.  This wooded area is a rarity in Jordan, it has a Mediterranean climate and is home to a great variety of flora and fauna including the reintroduced roe deer and a large number of bird species.   We especially like the Soap Trail which is a gentle forest walk of about two or three hours and seven kilometers through evergreen forest trails, pistachio trees, oaks, and fruit trees, which gives way to wonderful view points onto the wider landscape and local villages providing a glimpse into how many people still live in this region.  Focusing on the local aspect, the trail brings us out into the little village of Orjan where the village ladies make their own soap out of local ingredients and pure olive oil.  These exotic-smelling soaps are a great gift to take home which also support local communities. We recommended to visit early in the morning.

Second only to Petra in tourist appeal, the ancient city of Jerash is remarkable for its long chain of human occupation. Here at a well-watered site in the hills of Gilead, remains from Neolithic times have been found as well as Greek, Roman, Byzantine, Umayyad and others. Jerash's golden age, however, arrived with Roman rule. Jerash was a member of the Decapolis, a dynamic commercial league of ten Greco-Roman Cities. Today it is acknowledged as one of the best-preserved province cities of the Roman Empire. When Emperor Hadrian visited Jerash in 129 AD it was already thriving. To honor its guest, the city raised a triumphal arch. Today you can walk beneath the imposing south gate and then make your way up the 'Street of Columns' – the Roman road running 600 meters north from the Oval Plaza. As you step over the tracks of chariot wheels, still visible in the paving stones, you are invited to imagine prosperous citizens window-shopping beneath a covered sidewalk, and as you visit the theatres you can imagine the throngs of crowds enjoying dramas unfolding before them.  Jerash is a large site, so come prepared to not only learn, but also walk! 

After breakfast, check out of your hotel. South of Amman you will find Madaba, affecionately called the "City of Mosaics" by those who know it - the sheer quantity as well as the quality of the mosaics has ensured Madabe its place on the visitors' map.  Madaba is in fact a 4000 year old archaeological site, and takes in monuments such as St. George's Church which is home to the famous ancient mosaic map of the Holy Land.  You will view the detailed map of sixth century Jerusalem, Madaba's main attraction, and time allowing you will also visit the Church of the Apostles with its beautiful mosaic depicting the sea and her creatures. In the afternoon, you will arrive in Petra

Day 6 | Wadi Rum

Today you will visit Petra - perhaps one of the most stunning and impressive ancient sites which one can visit anywhere in the world today.   On arrival at the visitor center our guide will escort you into Petra through the Siq and reveal the highlights of the Nabatean city, including the stunning Treasury. Other sites include the theatre, the tombs and facades and the colonnaded street. Full historical background will be provided, together with information about the Nabatean civilisation. Please bring excellent walking shoes with you as Petra is a large site and a visit to Petra involves a considerable amount of walking.

You will continue your active Petra tour by hiking up to the High Place of Sacrifice.  This climb involves about a forty five minute ascent up steps to arrive at this ancient alter site where animals were dedicated to the gods, and their blood drained away through the stone.  The hike winds back down to Petra over another hour and a half or so, and along the way you will see various burial sites.

Wadi Rum offers extraordinary desert landscape, and one can well understand how T.E. Lawrence was inspired by the seemingly endless rolling colours and shapes of sand and rocks which surrounded him, and in which the famous film Lawrence of Arabia was later filmed.  The best way to enjoy Wadi Rum is to fully immerse yourself in the desert, and the best way to do that is to head out in a jeep!  Enjoy an adventurous jeep tour inside the beautiful desert with a local bedouin guide, marvelling at the endless sandy expanse and interesting rock formations.  You will have a chance to ask your guide about his way of life, Bedoin traditions and desert survival - all of which is so different from the way we live.

You will explore the desert from sand dunes to weird and wonderful rock formations, some of which you will have the opportunity to scale.

After breakfast, check out of your accommodation. If you want to feel at one with the desert, and in the role of a desert nomad, there is no better place to get into the role than on top of a camel.  Camels have been throughout history a source of riches and indeed survival for nomadic desert tribes. Their strength and endurance have served in trade and in war. Our camels are comfortable with people and enjoy being patted. Your ride today will last about an hour during which time you will take in the extraordinary desert scenery and explore the desert of Wadi Rum from an alternative angle.

Bedouin camps are evident in the Wadi, which is still home to a number of Bedouin families, and you will have the opportunity to learn about this way of life, so different from ours. The best way to learn about these amazing and hardy people is to spend time doing with the Bedoin inside their environment, and of course to break bread with them.  You will have the opportunity to talk to them and ask plenty of questions.  You will be well deserving of your delicious tradtional Bedouin meal by the time it comes - the food is truly a treat but please note that authentic Bedouin camps are extremely basic (there may not be bathroom facilities), and you will be invited to sit on the floor as is customary.  Men are not permitted to sit inside the womens' camp, so couples wil be invited to sit in the mens' tent. 

From there, you will be transferred to the Dead Sea

Enjoy a private guided tour of the Dead Sea. The Mujib Biosphere Reserve is the lowest nature reserve in the world, with a spectacular array of scenery near the east coast of the Dead Sea.  If you're looking to experience the reserve in an adrenaline-packed way, while taking in the beauty of the surrounding scenery, canyoning is just the answer.  You will hike, scramble, wade, explore hidden gorges, slide and jump down waterfalls, rappel and depending on the water levels most likely swim through the breathtaking sandstone canyons of Wadi Mujib.  This activity is only available during the summer season (April to October) when the cool water will be a delight.  You must be 18 years or older to do this experience and a strong swimmer.  We are happy to recommend alternative adventures as needed!

After breakfast, check out of your hotel. You will be transferred from the Dead Sea to Queen Alia International Airport in a comfortable air-conditioned car.  The drive time is around half an hour subject to traffic.  We have included a VIP airport service in order to streamline your airport experience so that you can avoid waiting in lines and make the most of your time in Jordan.  This service aids with passport control and baggage (the service is always subject to security procedures, unfortunately any concerns of a security official cannot be fast tracked).
